About Our Orphanage

ST.JOSEPH ORPHANAGE CENTER is a non-profit organization established in 2000 with the aim of providing a safe and permanent home for abandoned and orphaned children. The center was founded by Sr. Crispina Mnate, who was deeply concerned about the number of children being abandoned and left without proper care in Tanzania. The idea for the orphanage began in 1999, following a series of experiences that deeply touched Sr. Crispina. She encountered abandoned children in desperate situations, including a baby who sadly died in her arms while she was trying to take the child to the hospital. Seeking guidance, Sr. Crispina consulted a local priest, Father Babu, who encouraged her to pray and seek God's guidance. After a period of prayer, she felt called to dedicate her life to caring for abandoned and orphaned children. Sr. Crispina began searching for land where she could establish a permanent home for the children. She was given five acres of land for free in Kiserian village, Arusha, Tanzania. With support from Father Babu and others, she began the construction of the children's home. St. Joseph Orphanage Center started with five children in a rented house in Mianzini, Arusha. As the number of children increased, the available space became too small. In 2005, the center moved from Mianzini to Kiserian with 12 children, even though the new buildings were still under construction. Over the years, St. Joseph Orphanage Center has continued to grow. Today, the center provides a permanent home and care for 52 children—25 boys and 27 girls. The center provides the children with food, clothing, healthcare, education, shelter, and a safe and caring environment. St. Joseph Orphanage Center is recognized by the Government of Tanzania and is registered under Registration Number 005541. The center remains committed to giving vulnerable children the care, education, and opportunities they need to grow and build a better future.



OUR FOUNDER – SR. CRISPINA MNATE


St. Joseph Orphanage was founded by Sr. Crispina Mnate, whose compassion and dedication to the well-being of vulnerable children inspired the establishment of the home. With a deep commitment to serving children in need, Sr. Crispina Mnate worked to create a safe, caring, and nurturing environment where every child could feel valued, supported, and given the opportunity to build a brighter future. Her vision and dedication continue to inspire the work of St. Joseph Orphanage today. We remain committed to upholding her values by providing children with care, education, guidance, and opportunities to grow into confident and responsible members of society.



Our Mission

The primary mission of St. Joseph Orphanage is to restore hope, dignity, and a sense of belonging to orphaned, abandoned, and vulnerable children in Tanzania by providing them with essential care, protection, and opportunities for a better future. The project is committed to caring for children who are destitute, orphaned, abandoned, or living in difficult and vulnerable circumstances, ensuring that they receive the love, support, and guidance they need to grow in a safe and nurturing environment. St. Joseph Orphanage strives to provide children with their essential basic needs, including quality education, nutritious food, safe and secure shelter, healthcare, clothing, and spiritual and moral guidance. We believe that every child deserves to grow in an environment where they feel loved, respected, protected, and valued. Through consistent care and support, we seek to create a family-like environment that enables children to develop physically, emotionally, intellectually, socially, and spiritually.


The objectives are to rehabilitate the children with interpersonal development skills through education, medical care, building of their self-esteem and social living skills. We equip children with psychosocial skills that will enable them live responsibly in the community. We provide a nutritional diet to all children to help eradicate malnutrition and encourage healthy body and mind growth. We also provide a child friendly living atmosphere for the children.

Our Vision

To create a future where every orphaned and vulnerable child is loved, valued, protected, and empowered to reach their full potential and live a life of dignity, hope, and purpose. St. Joseph Orphanage envisions a society where no orphaned or vulnerable child is left without love, care, protection, or the opportunity to build a better future. We aspire to provide a safe, nurturing, and family-like environment where every child feels accepted, respected, and cared for as they would be by loving parents. Our vision is rooted in the belief that every child is unique, valuable, and capable of achieving great things when given the right support, guidance, and opportunities.


Ultimately, our vision is to restore hope, protect childhood, nurture potential, and empower orphaned and vulnerable children to overcome challenges and build brighter, healthier, and more meaningful futures. We believe that when children are surrounded by love, care, education, faith, and opportunity, they can grow into adults who positively influence their families, communities, and society.

It is our goal that we may be able to provide a home for other orphans in the community as we raise funds and awareness. Although we are only able to house 50 children at this time, it is our prayer that we will be able to expand our facilities and St.Joseph will be a place of homeless.
